The most recent hail storms in 2010 have brought many unlicensed and unwanted roofing contractors to Upstate South Carolina.  The State of South Carolina requires roofing, painting, drywall, flooring, etc. contractors to hold a Specialty License with the South Carolina Department of  Labor, Licensing and Regulation.  This license also requires the contractor to provide a license bond in the minimum amount of $5,000.00 to be held on file with the Department.  The contractor must also be registered with the South Carolina Secretary of State.  Each county within Upstate South Carolina will have their own guidelines for obtaining a business license and/or roofing permits. Before you choose a roofing contractor in Greenville, Simpsonville, Greer or Anderson, make sure you do your homework.  Your roofing contractor should be able to provide you with the following information:

1.  REGISTRATION: Registration with the South Carolina Secretary of State (803-734-2158)

2.  SPECIALTY LICENSE: A Specialty License (which includes a license bond) with the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (803-896-4300)
